Hints for Effective Mirroring

·        Take care your mirroring does not appear exaggerated. A fine mirroring of your converser's body movements displays sympathy.  Often people who agree take on similar body postures and the same attitude; unconsciously they employ the same hand movements. They will be inclined to breathe at the same speed and speak with the same tone.

·        If your converser is anxious and depressed, you will not be able to change his state of mind through modelling. It is often better to get onto the same wavelength by assuming the same attitude to identify with him. Mirror his own position and emulate his tone of voice. Remember, ‘Poverty loves companionship’.

However, whenever you have achieved rapport at this level, start to employ positive and pleasant suggestion to slowly change people. Change your posture slowly, appearing more excited. Glance. They will start to follow you - their way of acting will change by mirroring yours.

·        Go with a ‘swing’ means to establish a swing with the customer. This is often done at the same time as modelling. When you establish a swing, you can lead your customer towards a goal. This can be achieved at its best by asking questions at a pace they can

handle at a comfortable level. Do not go too fast and neither too slowly. It must be the right pace. Swing with his state of mind and behaviour. In this way you are getting part of the customer's state of mind. It is assumed as a very high level of communication and goes in synchrony with the ‘vibrations’ of the other person.
